Erasmusbridge, the Pride of Rotterdam
802 meters long
The Erasmus Bridge over the river Nieuwe Maas in the center of Rotterdam, left the neighborhood de Kop van Zuid with the north side of the river. The 802-meter long cable stayed bridge has a 139-meter high pitched asymmetrical steel plate pylon, earning the bridge its nickname "The Swan". Between de Kop van Zuid and the pylon there is an 89-meter long bascule bridge for ships that cannot pass under the cable stayed bridge. This bascule bridge is the biggest and heaviest bascule bridge in Western Europe.
7,000 tonnes of steel plates
Most of the steel required for the bridge was freshly rolled by Dillinger Hutte.
